Are you swimming naked?

December, 2009

Recently a friend said to me that he thought that the recession was an opportunity to see who had been swimming naked when the tide went out. While that may create an interesting picture in your mind, my warning to you is that it may be a picture that you will be faced with for another 9 months yet.

Have you disconnected?

November, 2009

Recently I attended two major rugby games in one weekend.

Firstly on the Friday night I was part of a small crowd of only about 8000 watching the Air NZ cup semi final  between Canterbury and Hawkes Bay. Then the next day I went along to watch my old team Mid Canterbury play Wanganui in the Meads cup final.  Although the crowd was smaller for the second game, the fans were much noisier, passionate and most importantly loyal to their team. Any sponsorship arrangement has to be a two way street so we always look to see what the team offers in return for our support. One of the key criteria that is important to us is how much enjoyment the team and its supporters get from their endeavours. (more…)

Politicians could improve employment prospects

July, 2009

Aren’t politicians a disagreeable bunch? They spend years in Government saying how they can’t do things, then when they are in opposition they immediately deride the new Government for not doing exactly the same things.

With New Zealand in recession you would think they could take the opportunity for all parties to work together and get things cranking, wouldn’t you? Yes I know I’m dreaming but consider the long term benefits that could eventuate if a consolidated consultative approach was taken now to some big projects. (more…)
